Graduating from the University of Limerick in 2018 and transiently occupying grassroot, academic and commercial cultural spaces since, with works and collaborations shown at Lightmoves Festival of Screen Dance, What Next Dance Festival, All Together Now and more, Walter Nied (or Walt Needs) process often incorporates real-time visual performances, projection/laser mapping and surround sound technology.

After studies, having become interested in 2D and 3D visual design, he co-founded the audio/visual collective Concept Null and started several years working with Cabal as their live visual and stage designer. This helped him gain experience in content creation, multi screen projection mapping, real-time system workflows and landing me projects such as the mapping installation for LEAF and the 30 Years Reunion project in Wismar.

Relocating to Berlin in 2023, and having a previous interest in spatial sound through his undergrad work and a residency with Soundome, he undertook an internship in Monom Sound to learn surround sound mixing and further understand high density loudspeaker systems. Through this work, he was introduced to the 4D Sound suite and helped with fitting and re-mixing of pieces for the European Spatial Sound Exchange project and also helped mix and compose for the Elements composition for Mercer Labs in New York.

Current work includes the running of the community organisation project Concept Null which runs a bimonthly newsletter focusing on digital art in Ireland and hosts meetups for artists and enthusiasts in Ireland in an effort to highlight and strengthen the growing community in Ireland.
